dustmen

British garbage collectors

Dustmen is the British term for garbage collectors—workers who collect household waste and take it away for disposal.

The word comes from an era when much household refuse was literal dust and ash from coal fires.

Americans would call them garbage men or sanitation workers.

The dustmen come round every Tuesday morning.
