dousers

Those quenching flames

Dousers are people who practice dowsing—searching for underground water, minerals, or other hidden things using a forked stick or pendulum.

The dowser walks slowly while holding the instrument, which supposedly moves when passing over the target.

Also spelled dowsers.

Skeptics consider the practice pseudoscience, though some dousers have devoted followings in rural areas.
