doubleton
Bridge hand's pair
A doubleton is a holding of exactly two cards in a suit, used in bridge and other card games to describe hand distribution: I had a doubleton in spades.
The term matters strategically because short suits create opportunities for trumping.
By extension, doubleton sometimes describes any pair or set of two.
