doctorfish
Reef-dwelling Atlantic tang
A doctorfish is a tropical Atlantic surgeonfish, dark-bodied with a blade-like spine near the tail.
The name likely refers to the scalpel-sharp spine, which the fish can deploy defensively.
Surgeonfish generally are called doctorfish for the same reason.
We spotted a doctorfish while snorkeling in the Caribbean.
