Unofficial student holiday
Ditch day is an informal term for a day when students skip school or classes, either individually or as part of a coordinated absence.
At some universities, particularly Caltech, Ditch Day is a sanctioned tradition where seniors leave campus and underclassmen attempt to break into their rooms through elaborate puzzles.
More broadly, any day when someone decides to skip obligations might be called a ditch day: I'm taking a ditch day from work tomorrow.
