deprecate

Speak against strongly

Deprecate means to express disapproval of something or to belittle it: Critics deprecated the governor's handling of the crisis.

In computing, to deprecate a feature is to mark it as outdated and discourage its use while keeping it functional: That API method has been deprecated in favor of a newer one.

The word is often confused with depreciate, which means to diminish in value.
