delimbing

Stripping tree branches

Delimbing is the removal of limbs from a felled tree, stripping branches from the trunk to prepare it for transport or processing.

In forestry and logging, delimbing may be done by hand with axes or chainsaws, or by specialized machinery called delimbers: The crew spent the morning delimbing before the logs could be hauled out.
