neutrality pact
Mutual nonaggression treaty
A neutrality pact is an agreement between nations to remain neutral toward each other, typically pledging not to attack one another or to stay out of conflicts involving the other party.
Such agreements often prove fragile when strategic interests shift: The Soviet-Japanese neutrality pact held until 1945.
Also called a non-aggression pact, though that term emphasizes refraining from attack rather than broader neutrality.
