deboost

Reduce orbital velocity

Deboost is the opposite of boost—to reduce something's power, visibility, or ranking.

The term gained currency on social media platforms, where algorithms may deboost content to limit its reach without outright removing it: The platform deboosted posts containing misinformation.

In gaming, deboost means to lower a stat or ability, often as a penalty or balancing mechanism.
