deblocking
Clearing digital artifacts
Deblocking is the removal of blocky visual artifacts from digital images or video, especially in compressed media where square pixel blocks become visible.
Video codecs and image editing software apply deblocking filters to smooth these distortions: The encoder's deblocking algorithm cleaned up the pixelation.
In other contexts, deblocking can mean removing any kind of obstruction or barrier.
