daughterboard
Subsidiary circuit board
A daughterboard is a smaller circuit board that plugs into a larger one—typically a motherboard—to add or expand functionality.
The metaphor follows family hierarchy: the main board is the mother, and boards that attach to it are daughters.
Daughterboards might add memory, processing power, or specialized capabilities without requiring replacement of the entire system.
