daubing

Slapping on paint

Daubing is the act of applying something thickly or carelessly to a surface—smearing plaster on a wall, spreading mud on a hut, or slapping paint on canvas without much skill.

The word often carries a dismissive tone when applied to painting: His daubing hardly qualifies as art.

In traditional construction, daubing means filling gaps in wattle frameworks with clay or mud.
