dagos

Anti-Italian slurs historically

Dagos is the plural of dago, an offensive ethnic slur primarily directed at Italians, though historically also applied to Spaniards and Portuguese.

The term originated in the nineteenth century, possibly from the Spanish name Diego.

It carries strong connotations of contempt and is considered deeply insulting.

The neighborhood kids called him and his brothers dagos.
