dagoes
Derogatory immigrant labels
Dagoes is the plural of dago, an offensive slur for a person of Italian, Spanish, or Portuguese descent.
The term was especially common in the early twentieth century when Southern European immigrants faced widespread discrimination in America: The foreman refused to hire dagoes.
Now dated but still deeply insulting.
