curtain calls
Actors acknowledge applause
Curtain calls are the appearances performers make at the end of a show to acknowledge applause.
The cast returns to the stage after the curtain has fallen (or would have, in older theater tradition) and bows to the audience.
Multiple curtain calls signal enthusiastic reception: The standing ovation brought three curtain calls.
Figuratively, a curtain call is any return appearance after an apparent conclusion.
