encores

Post-bow performances

Encores are additional performances given after the scheduled program ends, demanded by enthusiastic applause.

The word comes from French for "again." At concerts, the encore is often anticipated—artists leave the stage knowing they'll return for one or two more songs.

The crowd cheered until the band came back for an encore.

Figuratively, an encore is any repeat performance: Her second novel was an encore to her debut success.
