cub-reporter

Journalist in training

A cub reporter is a young or inexperienced journalist, typically new to the profession and learning under more seasoned staff.

The term evokes the image of a young animal not yet fully grown: She started as a cub reporter covering local meetings before moving to the crime beat.

Sometimes shortened to cub.
