credit stealing
Taking unearned recognition
Credit stealing is taking recognition for work, ideas, or accomplishments that belong to someone else.
It happens in workplaces when a manager presents a subordinate's idea as their own, or when a collaborator downplays others' contributions: She accused her coauthor of credit stealing after he gave interviews without mentioning her.
The practice damages trust and morale, and is widely regarded as a serious breach of professional ethics.
