credit alert
Identity theft notification
A credit alert is a notification from a credit monitoring service warning that something has changed on your credit report—a new account opened, a large purchase made, or an inquiry from a lender.
The alert helps detect identity theft or fraud early: I got a credit alert that someone tried to open a card in my name.
Also called a fraud alert when placed proactively to require extra verification before new credit is issued.
