A crashpad is an informal place to sleep, typically temporary and basic—somewhere you crash for the night rather than settle in.

The term originated with climbers' thick foam mats placed below bouldering routes to cushion falls, but it's more commonly used for cheap shared housing where people sleep between shifts or trips.

Flight attendants and pilots often maintain crashpads near hub airports.
