crab pot
Baited seafloor enclosure
A crab pot is a cage-like trap used to catch crabs, typically made of wire mesh with one or more funnel-shaped openings that allow crabs to enter but make escape difficult.
Baited and lowered to the seafloor, crab pots are retrieved by rope attached to a floating buoy: We checked the crab pots at dawn.
