counterprotests
Rival marches against marches
Counterprotests are demonstrations organized in opposition to another protest, typically held at the same time and place.
When one group rallies for a cause, opponents may stage a counterprotest to voice disagreement: Counterprotests formed across the street from the anti-abortion march.
The proximity often creates tension and sometimes confrontation between the two sides.
