countdown show
Pre-launch televised event
A countdown show is a radio or television program that ranks songs, albums, or other items in order, typically from a lower position to the top spot.
The format builds anticipation as listeners or viewers wait to hear what ranks number one.
Casey Kasem hosted American Top 40, the classic countdown show.
The term extends to any program structured around ranked lists revealed sequentially.
