cotton harvest
Gathering white bolls
Cotton harvest is the gathering of cotton from plants, typically occurring in late summer or fall when bolls have opened to reveal the white fiber inside.
Historically done by hand—often by enslaved laborers in the American South—cotton harvest is now largely mechanized: The cotton harvest runs from September through November in most of the Cotton Belt.
