coper

One who manages

A coper is a horse dealer, especially one with a reputation for sharp practices—passing off inferior animals, concealing defects, or misrepresenting a horse's age and soundness.

The word is old-fashioned and primarily British: The coper had doctored the mare's teeth to make her look younger.

By extension, any crafty or unscrupulous dealer.
