coondog
Treeing hunting hound
A coondog is a hound bred and trained specifically for hunting raccoons, typically at night.
The most common breeds include the Bluetick, Redbone, Black and Tan, and Treeing Walker coonhounds, all valued for their stamina, keen noses, and distinctive baying that signals when they've treed their quarry.
Coondog is standard in rural American hunting communities: He's got three coondogs he runs every fall.
