convalescent home
Post-illness care residence
A convalescent home is a facility where patients recover from illness, surgery, or injury.
Unlike hospitals, which treat acute conditions, convalescent homes provide extended care during the gradual return to health: After her hip replacement, she spent six weeks in a convalescent home.
The term sounds somewhat dated; nursing home or rehabilitation facility are now more common.
