contusions
Blunt trauma marks
Contusions are bruises—injuries where blood vessels break beneath the skin without breaking the skin itself, causing discoloration and tenderness.
The term is more clinical than *bruise*, appearing in medical reports and sports injury assessments: The patient presented with multiple contusions to the face and torso.
A cerebral contusion is bruising of the brain tissue.
