contra dancing
Longways partner dancing
Contra dancing is a form of American folk dance in which couples arrange in two long facing lines and execute figures with their partners, neighbors, and the line itself.
A caller announces each move while live musicians play.
The dance progresses so that couples continually meet new partners: We go contra dancing every Friday night.
Related to English country dancing and French contredanse.
