Concertinas are small handheld musical instruments related to the accordion, with bellows and buttons on each end that produce notes when pressed while squeezing or expanding.
The word also describes things that fold or collapse in accordion-like fashion: a concertina file, concertina wire (coiled razor wire used as a barrier).
As a verb, to concertina is to compress or crumple in zigzag folds: The car concertinaed on impact.
