melodeon

Small reed organ

A melodeon is a small reed organ, similar to a harmonium, operated by foot-pumped bellows.

Popular in homes and small churches during the 19th century before pianos became affordable: The old melodeon in the parlor still worked.

The term also refers to a type of button accordion, particularly the diatonic kind used in folk music.
