Settler nation's ensign
A colonial flag is a flag used by or representing a colony, typically displaying symbols of the colonizing power alongside local identifiers.
The term often refers specifically to historical flags from the American colonial period, such as the Grand Union Flag or various pre-independence banners: The museum displayed colonial flags from the thirteen colonies.
Colonial flags may also reference flags used by European powers in their overseas territories.
