A cold deck is a deck of cards secretly arranged in a specific order, then switched into a game to cheat.
The term comes from the substitute deck being literally cold—not warmed by handling like the deck in play.
By extension, to cold deck someone is to set them up for failure through hidden manipulation: The whole negotiation was a cold deck from the start.
