fair shake
Just treatment given
A fair shake is an equitable opportunity or honest treatment: All we're asking for is a fair shake.
The phrase usually appears with negatives or qualifiers: He never got a fair shake, Give the new policy a fair shake before judging it.
The shake likely comes from shaking dice—an honest roll, not a rigged one.
