cloudbusters

Sky-clearing weather devices

Cloudbusters are devices purportedly designed to influence weather by dispersing clouds or inducing rain.

The term originates with Wilhelm Reich's 1950s invention, which he claimed could manipulate atmospheric "orgone energy." Modern cloudbusters are often homemade contraptions promoted in fringe communities: He built a cloudbuster in his backyard to end the drought.

The word also refers to Kate Bush's 1985 song about Reich.
