rain makers
Drought-ending specialists now
Rainmakers are people who produce results, especially those who generate revenue or close deals.
The term comes from tribal figures who claimed to summon rain through ritual, and extends to anyone who delivers what others can't: a lawyer who brings in clients, a salesperson who lands big accounts.
Every firm wants a rainmaker on staff.
The literal sense—someone who seeds clouds to induce precipitation—still exists but is far less common than the figurative business usage.
