climbing lane
Slow vehicle route
A climbing lane is an extra lane added to a highway on steep uphill grades, allowing slower vehicles—especially heavy trucks—to move right while faster traffic passes.
Signs typically read "Slower traffic use climbing lane." The lane usually ends after the grade levels off, merging back to standard lanes.
