click tracks
Studio timing guide
Click tracks are metronome recordings played through headphones to help musicians maintain consistent tempo during recording sessions.
The isolated click keeps performers synchronized without being captured on the final recording.
Live performers sometimes use click tracks to stay locked with backing tracks or synchronized lighting: The drummer played to a click track throughout the show.
