jam sessions
Spontaneous musical collaborations
Jam sessions are informal gatherings where musicians play together spontaneously, typically improvising rather than performing rehearsed material.
The term originated in jazz but now applies across genres.
Musicians might jam on blues standards, work out new ideas, or simply enjoy playing together without the pressure of a formal performance.
After the gig, a few of us stuck around for a jam session that lasted until 3 a.m.
