claymore mines
Tripwire-triggered antipersonnel weapons
A claymore mine is a directional antipersonnel weapon that sprays steel balls in a fan-shaped pattern when detonated.
The curved rectangular device bears the warning "FRONT TOWARD ENEMY" and is typically command-detonated by wire or remote trigger.
Developed for military use, claymores are designed to defend positions or ambush enemy personnel: They set up claymores along the perimeter.
The name comes from the Scottish broadsword.
