class participation
Speaking up voluntarily
Class participation is the act of contributing to discussions, answering questions, or otherwise engaging during a class session.
Teachers often grade students on participation to encourage active learning: Her class participation grade suffered because she rarely spoke up.
The term implies visible involvement—sitting quietly doesn't count, even if you're paying attention.
