hand raising
Classroom participation gesture
Hand raising is the act of lifting one's hand to signal something—typically to get attention, volunteer, or indicate agreement.
In classrooms, hand raising requests permission to speak: Raise your hand if you know the answer.
In meetings or votes, it signals assent: All in favor, raise your hands.
The gesture can also express enthusiasm or surrender.
