ciswomen

Birth-assigned female identifiers

Ciswomen is the plural of ciswoman, a term for women whose gender identity aligns with the sex they were assigned at birth—that is, women who are not transgender.

The prefix cis- comes from Latin meaning "on the same side as," contrasting with trans- meaning "across." The term emerged in academic and LGBTQ+ contexts to provide a neutral descriptor that doesn't treat non-transgender status as the unmarked default.

The study surveyed both ciswomen and trans women about their healthcare experiences.
