circumnavigating

Going completely around

Circumnavigating is traveling completely around something, typically the earth or another large body: Magellan's crew completed the first voyage circumnavigating the globe.

The word applies to any full circuit—circumnavigating a lake, an island, or an obstacle.

Figuratively, it can mean finding a way around something: She spent the meeting circumnavigating the real issue.
