circumaural
Surrounding the ear
Circumaural describes headphones or ear protection that completely surrounds the ear rather than resting on it: circumaural headphones provide better noise isolation.
The design encloses the entire ear within padded cups, distinguishing it from supra-aural styles that press against the ear.
