circular breathing
Uninterrupted wind technique
Circular breathing is a technique for producing continuous sound on a wind instrument by inhaling through the nose while pushing air out through the mouth using the cheeks as a reservoir.
Players maintain an unbroken tone while replenishing their breath.
The technique is essential in some traditional music, notably Australian didgeridoo playing, and used by jazz and classical musicians for extended passages.
