church aisle

Sanctuary walking lane

A church aisle is one of the passages between rows of pews or along the sides of the nave.

The center aisle is where brides traditionally walk during weddings: Her father walked her down the church aisle.

Despite common usage, the space where congregants sit is technically the nave, not the aisle—the aisle is the walkway itself.
