Chow-chow names two unrelated things.
The dog breed is a sturdy, thick-coated Chinese breed with a distinctive blue-black tongue and lion-like mane.
The relish is a pickled mixture of chopped vegetables—typically cabbage, peppers, and onions—popular in Southern and Pennsylvania Dutch cooking: She served chow-chow with the pork chops.
