choral anthems

Choral anthems are musical compositions written for a choir, typically performed in religious services or formal ceremonies.

The term combines choral (for choir) with anthem (a song of praise or patriotism).

In church contexts, an anthem is usually a more elaborate piece than a hymn, featuring complex harmonies and often accompanied by organ: The choir performed several choral anthems during the Christmas service.
