choir loft
Elevated singing area
A choir loft is an elevated gallery in a church where the choir sits or stands during services.
It's typically located above the congregation, often at the back of the nave or above the entrance: The organist climbed the narrow stairs to the choir loft.
The elevation helps project voices over the assembled worshippers.
